Cinco de Mayo 2012

There is a lot happening this Saturday! It's the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo - two opportunities to celebrate. If I was in Kentucky for the Derby, I would definitely be tailgating and indulging in bourbon balls, mint juleps and beer cheese. But, since I  live in the Tex Mex Capital, and one of my favorite food groups is guacamole, I will be partaking in the Cinco festivities. Here's what I will be making on Saturday for myself and my friends.


Margaritas



Stirrings is the best margarita mix on the market! I dare say it's better than juicing your own limes. (Unless you live in Key West, then I take it back.) I pour 2 oz of mix, 1.5 oz of tequila and a splash of orange juice. To me, the combo of the tart limes and the sweetness of the oj makes the perfect margarita. You can also add a splash of Cointreau. 



Guacamole Hummus




I am a huge fan of hummus and a huge fan of guacamole, so you can imagine my delight when I saw this recipe on pinterest. (Some drool may have accidentally rolled on to my keyboard when I saw the pic.) I cannot wait to try the combo this weekend. I promise to report back and let you all know how it tasted. If it's good, then it's definitely going into our tailgate rotation. 


Tostados






 

Tostados are the perfect snack by the pool. Which is exactly where I plan to eat them. The recipe is super simple and I love the addition of taco seasoning to the sour cream. Cheers!
